Two Bulldogs enter transfer portal

Two Bulldogs enter transfer portal

Last week, the Georgia Bulldogs had their first player decide to enter the transfer portal. On Monday, two more decided to follow suit.

Dawgs247 has confirmed that Georgia guard Camron McDowell and forward Tyrone Baker have entered the transfer portal. McDowell and Baker make it three players who have left the Bulldogs’ roster this offseason after forward Dalen Ridgnal entered the portal on March 29.

A three-star from McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Georgia, McDowell had a limited role as a freshman. He played in only seven games for the Bulldogs in 2021-22, ending the season with a total of 7 points, 7 assists, and 3 rebounds. He shot 30 percent from the field.

McDowell never scored more than two points in a game for Georgia, doing so three times: against Arkansas on Feb. 2, against LSU on Feb. 16 and against Ole Miss on Feb. 19.

Baker, meanwhile, signed with Georgia as a three-star recruit. He only appeared in three games as a freshman and scored a total of 2 points and brought down a pair of rebounds. His last appearance was against Gardner-Webb on Dec. 29.

Georgia men’s basketball coach Mike White spoke about players potentially leaving the Bulldogs program back on March 15.

“FFirst and foremost, before you even get a chance to make your staff evaluations, you’ve got to get a staff, right? And then when you do that, we’ve got to figure out what these guys want, you know? Who knows what the aspirations are with some of these guys,” White said. “If there’s a player that doesn’t necessarily want to be here or has got one foot out the door, you want them to pursue what’s best for them, what’s in their best interest. It’s that simple.”

McDowell and Baker deciding to leave is the latest in what’s starting to be a steady roster makeover for Georgia. In addition to the three departures, Georgia added former Longwood point guard Justin Hill on Friday.

McDowell and Baker’s departures mean Georgia now has four open scholarships.
